Importing Charge Codes

The ASP practice management software you purchased should include the most current version of Current Procedural Codes, and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (CPT/HCPCS) & ICD-9.

Some Practice Management systems may default all of the codes while others require you to import them into your Practice Management System. We will train you how to import the codes specific to your medical practice specialty quickly, and accurately with the proper defaults option selected. You will also learn how to indicate a difference in procedure codes including adding modifiers as a default. Learning the proper importing and setup can improve the offices billing workflow and productivity.

Our FREE Medical Billing Training Videos offer insight into setting up and using a Database.

One of the first videos explains how to import your Procedure Codes after defaulting basic billing information associated with the grouping of codes.

For those new to the Medical Industry it's importing to learn about Procedure Codes commonly known as CPT codes or HCPCS.

CPT or Current Procedural Terminology Codes are alphanumeric or numbered codes used to indicate specific health interventions taken by doctors and medical professions. These codes tell the insurance carriers, workers compensation or auto insurances the medical, surgical and diagnostic services rendered. The insurance carriers can plug these procedure codes into their software to identify how much to pay the medical office for these services.

An Example of CPT codes for a Surgeon might be: 42825 (removal of tonsils), 99024 (Post Op Follow-up visit), 99203 (New Office Visit) or 99212(Established outpatient visit).

Each year as new CPT updates are released you will want to remove or delete any old codes and import the new codes. Watch our FREE Medical training video on importing Procedure Codes within your PM software system.
